This book and CD pack can be used on its own, or as a supplement to Play Drums Today!, Levels 1 & 2. Includes 10 great songs and a professional-quality CD with full-band backing.

Scott started the Sound Library Series which is designed for musicians interested in composing and recording their own music and for drummers to learn drumbeats in many different styles. Each package is made up of three main components:

The CD-ROM

The CD-ROM is completely filled with professional-quality audio files that have been specially prepared to help you create amazing, original music. Included are 101 basic loops. A loop is a seamless, repeated pattern. The drum loops in these packages provide authentic grooves from a broad range of modern rock, classic rock, and hip-hop and rap styles.

Along with each loop are many useful variations. The variations include intros, fills, accents, and endings. Don't worry about being stuck with a limited loop selection ever again! You'll have the options you need to build the songs you want.

The CD-ROM also holds a complete set of one-shots. Yes, even the loops and variations are totally tweakable. The one-shots provide samples of each drum hit at different velocities. Again, you will not be limited. No matter what type of drum sound your song calls for, you can bet it's here.

From start to finish, the CD-ROM contains all the building blocks you need to compose a complete drum part. Just mix and match the sounds to customize the groove you want. Then, blend these loops with your own recorded sounds. The possibilities are limitless!

Wondering about the technical details? Well, here's what you need to know. Loops are formatted for all samplers and hard disk programs that read standard PC platform .wav files. For compatibility, you will need to access a looping program such as FruityLoops or Sonic Foundry's ACID. All loops are royalty free.

The Audio CD

The audio CD contains 99 tracks and is included as a bonus so that you can quickly hear a demonstration of (or play along with) each of the 101 basic drum beats. It's playable on any standard CD player. You'll notice that each groove is preceded by one measure of "clicks" to indicate the tempo and meter. The numbered diamond in the book corresponds to the track numbers on the CD.

The Book

The accompanying book provides music notation for each of the 101 basic drum beats. The beats are organized by style, not difficulty, and are written out as four-measure patterns that repeat. For the composing musician or novice drummer, this section is a hands-on dictionary of genuine grooves.

At the end of each book, you'll also find an index of all the files contained on the CD-ROMs. It's an easy-to-use reference that will come in handy as you begin to navigate through the hundereds of folders embedded within.
