Live Drum Lessons with a Web Cam

Now you can take one-on-one drum lessons right from the comfort of your own home, playing your own drumset from anywhere in the world! Imagine the gas, time, and frustration you'll save from taking lessons from an inadequate local teacher. The lesson books can be mailed right to your doorstep!

Scott has been teaching drums privately since 1987. Whether you are just beginning and want a solid foundation, or you are a gigging professional looking for new ideas or to "brush up" on a few things--lessons will help you achieve your drumming goals. You need not feel intimidated by taking lessons. With Scott's easy approach, you'll gain confidence and be on your way to making great music in no time.

Lessons are taught to all ages- in all styles, and are given by Scott personally live via web cam (using the free program Skype) from his state-of-the-art teaching studio located in Madison, Wisconsin USA. Being taught on a one on one basis, the lessons are shaped differently for everyone and designed to be fun while you learn at your own pace. Scott's teaching strong points include: mastering the rudiments, learning to read music, preparing solo & ensemble material, improvising, double bass technique, and forming proper hand technique and speed. Other topics such as drum tuning, recording, or anything else drum related you wish to have my perspective on is welcome. You don't even need a drumset to start--just drumsticks, a practice pad, possibly a lesson book or two (all for purchase from my webstore, and can be sent to you prior to starting the lessons), and lots of enthusiasm.

Lessons are usually set up for a half an hour to an hour (you'll need to check with me for my availability). The price per half hour is $25.00 (payable securely with a credit card through PayPal. I'll send you a request for the lesson fee). There is no signup fee or contract to sign up for an extended period of time. You may even try just one lesson to see if you like it. The lesson fee must be paid 24 hours in advance prior to the lesson.

What you'll need: a webcam (capable of at least 30 frames per second). I'm using a Logitech Orbit MP webcam. A headset mic with headphones (I've found that if you use only the built in webcam mic, acoustic drums will distort the mic. With the headset, the mic is close to your mouth for talking, but pointed away from your drums so they sound better), and a fast internet connection (cable, DSL). You'll also need to download the free program called Skype that makes all of this possible. We'll be able to see each other and converse live! I would connect with you once before the agreed lesson time to make sure we can get connected and so everything works.

If you have any questions regarding my teaching and would like to set up live drum lessons, please feel free to e-mail me to get all of this started.
